HOWTO Input ChineseUsing the keyboard
Underneath you can find some input methods: Using a pen (handwriting recognition)This is done by using an optical pen with which one writes Chinese characters on a pad. This requires a special OCR program which allows the computer to recognise the caracters that a user writes.unlike using the keyboard to input Chinese, this method requires special hardware (a pad and a pen). The pad is most of the time available in two versions, an USB and a serial version. When one buys this kind of hardware, software is included. Although this is not always necessary since most FEP (front end processors) now support handwriting recognition. Microsoft Windows XP (available by installing it through Office XP, in which it is an option! so don't forget to select it when you want it. For East Asian languages, the handwriting recognition engine is installed automatically with Microsoft Office XP.) also supporting handwriting recognition for both simplified and traditional Chinese (in addition to Japanese and Korean) This input method still needs some improvement in seepd and accuracy. It's also slower then keyboard input. Plugin for XP (Chinese) Using speech-recognitionUsing this method a user can input Chinese by just talking into a microphone. The main problem with this input method is the difficulty of Chinese language and it's pronounciation. Since Chinese is a language that is based on tones it's difficult to develop algorithms that recognise this. Some software requires training which makes it less flexible to use it among different users. Microsoft Windows XP comes with speech recognition support for simplified Chinese (support for traditional Chinese will follow). Richwin and Twinbridge also have voice recognition capabilities. There excist some specialised software. ViaVoice [ < back ] - [ home ] |
