East Asian languages have a other typographical tradition. They write their text from top to bottom and from right to left.

Write right-to-left in vertical mode
Do not turn Western input 90¢X clockwise but have it displayed vertically
Do not turn special characters, such as brackets
Do not change into horizontal input mode when in edit mode
